The Gift of Fish in Alaska

Proud Fighter, Yakutat, Alaska
King.

by Mike

My dad got hold of an enormous king salmon, the largest he’s ever caught. They fought for 20 minutes as the salmon repeatedly ran for its life, but the hook was well-set. It was a monster, weighing almost 50 pounds (42)!

(Here are a bunch of pictures of my dad in his heaven)

This is an odd question, but is the gulf crisis going to affect the abundance up there?

  2. The oil spill is just one of many reasons to be afraid, to hoard, to be greedy, if one wants it to play that role in his life.

It would probably be distasteful to buy seafood right now – better instead to buy what’s growing on sustainably-farmed land around your own home, taking advantage of the abundance in your own sphere.

(The definition of abundance being, “Having what you need when you need it,” as opposed to, “Having a lot of something.”)
